The Position 
Our client has a 1 FTE available for a Rural Medicine Specialist to join their team of enthusiastic rural generalists who provide emergency and in-patient care to their community. This is a permanent position based in Queenstown, well known for being the form Adventure Capital of the World. Their workload is especially varied, with the level of trauma you would expect from their young and adventurous population, balanced with in-patient care which is mostly general medicine, paediatrics and palliative care. They also provide emergency back-up for the Lakes primary birthing unit and Community Mental Health Team. Their SMOs provide 24 hour cover through rostered shifts, working alone overnight with on-call help available. It is a teaching centre for rural hospital and emergency medicine registrars and rural immersion undergraduate medical students.

Located in the southernmost city in New Zealand's South Island and is renowned for its friendly and unhurried pace of life and strong sense of community. There are abundant sports and other amenities, educational (primary through tertiary) facilities, as well as a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Close by are national parks and summer and winter playgrounds that are part of Queenstown and Central Otago. 

Essential Criteria: 
To apply for this position you must hold or be eligible for vocational scope of practice in Rural Hospital Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
