Our client is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist interested in working in a rural health setting. This requires a high degree of flexibility, as the work is diverse in the rural setting. The role is essentially for a generalist and includes responsibility for aspects of general adult psychiatry (community and inpatient), addictions, older persons and child and adolescents. The exact range of clinical responsibilities will be negotiated in regard to your experience, interests and the Service needs.
You will work in a small team of five psychiatrists (4FTE) working collegially with a stable and experienced workforce to provide specialist services to a population of approximately 32,000 people. The service has good systems in place to support collegial relationships and professional development.
A permanent placement is preferred, however a fixed term is negotiable.
New Zealand's West Coast is a remote area known for its friendliness, kiwi can-do and remarkable scenery. The wild Tasman Sea has created natural wonders such as the pancake rocks along this coast of rugged beaches. Beautiful red flowered rata forest covers the hills, and colonies of seals, penguins and other unique NZ wildlife dot the coast. There is plenty to explore here in the great little coastal towns that are full of history, and some of New Zealand's most amazing national parks.
Must have or be eligible for Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
